The beach clubs on Melasti Beach: Palmilla and Tropical Temptation.

Two clubs on the same white sand, 12 to 20 minutes from the villa, and how to choose between them.

Guests often ask us which Melasti beach club to choose, and the honest answer is that it depends on who is coming. Two clubs sit on the sand at Melasti Beach in Ungasan, a short drive from our villa in Kutuh: Palmilla, the relaxed one, and Tropical Temptation, the adults-only one. They share the same white cliffs and the same clear water, and they suit different afternoons.

This guide covers what each club is, who it suits, how to plan a day around the beach itself, and what we tell our own guests about timing. It is written from the villa, about 12 to 20 minutes from the sand, and it follows the same rule as our Melasti Beach morning guide: the beach belongs to the morning, the clubs belong to the late afternoon.

About the drive times. Every time in this guide was checked on Google Maps on 17 October 2026, for a weekday morning departure from the villa, and is Google's typical range. Weekends, temple ceremonies and the high season can add time.

Two clubs, one beach

Melasti is the beach with the road carved down through the limestone, and it has become one of the best known stretches of sand in the south of Bali. Unlike most of the Bukit's well known clubs, both of these are down at beach level, which is the point: you can leave your day bed, walk onto the sand and swim in the open sea.

The difference between them is mood. Palmilla is open and easygoing, a place for a long lunch that turns into sunset. Tropical Temptation is adults only, with a pool, day beds and music, and it is built for couples and groups of friends rather than families. If you are travelling with children, Palmilla is the one to ask about first.

Palmilla

About 14 to 20 minutes, 5.7 km. Palmilla is the palm-lined club on the sand at Melasti, and the more relaxed of the two. It works best as an afternoon place: arrive after lunch, settle in with a view of the cliffs, and stay through the softer light at the end of the day. It suits couples who want a slow beach afternoon with somewhere comfortable to sit, and it is the easier choice for a mixed group.

Palmilla does not have a website of its own that we could find, so for anything specific, including day beds in high season, contact the club directly before you go and ask how the day works. On weekends and public holidays the beach itself is busy, and the clubs fill with it.

Tropical Temptation

About 12 to 18 minutes, 5.4 km. Tropical Temptation calls itself an adults-only beach club, and its Google listing says the same. It sits in an elevated position on Melasti Beach with steps leading down to the sand, so you get beach access and a club at the same time. Its own site describes an infinity pool looking out over the open sea, day beds grouped on the sand and around the pool, cabanas for groups, and DJ sets through the afternoon.

Booking is through the club's own website, which has a reservation page and separate pages for tables and whole-venue hire. Day beds and cabanas are limited, so in the busy months reserve ahead rather than arriving and hoping. When we checked the site in October 2026 it listed a daily breakfast service from early morning.

Because it is adults only, this is the club for a honeymoon, an anniversary or a group of friends. Families should choose Palmilla or keep to the open beach instead.

Which club for which day

For a quiet couple's afternoon with a swim in the sea, either works; Palmilla is calmer, Tropical Temptation has the pool. For a celebration with music and a cabana, Tropical Temptation. For a family or a group of mixed ages, Palmilla. For anyone who simply wants the beach, skip the clubs altogether: Melasti is a public beach and the sand in front of the cliffs is open to everyone.

Whichever you choose, keep in mind the shape of the beach. The cliffs behind Melasti block the late sun on parts of the sand, so the last hour of light is not a true sunset-over-the-water moment the way it is at Jimbaran or on the west coast. Our guide to the best sunset spots in Uluwatu covers the places that face the setting sun.

How we plan a Melasti day from Kutuh

Leave the villa at eight and be on the sand before nine, when the light is soft and the beach is quiet. Swim while the water is calm. Head home as the crowds and the heat arrive, have lunch by your own pool and rest through the brightest part of the day. Go back to a club around four, when the light softens again and the day beds are at their best.

A car with a driver is the easiest way to do this. The roads on the Bukit are narrow and steep, and parking near Melasti is busiest exactly when you want to be there. If you are staying with us, ask the butler to arrange the driver the evening before.

Beyond Melasti

If you want a beach club with a wider choice of activities, Sundays Beach Club in Ungasan is about 14 to 20 minutes from the villa, with an inclinator down to the sand, kayaks and an evening bonfire. If you want a clifftop club with headline DJs, Savaya is about 18 to 24 minutes away. We compare the two in Savaya or Sundays, and our guide to the best beach clubs in Uluwatu covers the whole peninsula, including the west coast clubs 26 to 50 minutes away.
