Things to do in Kutuh, Bali.

The quiet village between Melasti and Pandawa, and everything within twenty minutes of it.

Most visitors meet Kutuh through a car window. It is the village you cross on the way to Pandawa Beach, or the last stretch of road before Melasti. Our villa, La Calma de Celine, sits here on a small lane called Gang Cotek, so this is the guide we give our own guests: the things to do in Kutuh and right around it, how long each one really takes to reach, and when to go.

Kutuh lies on the Bukit peninsula, the limestone headland at the southern tip of Bali, between Ungasan and Nusa Dua. It is a working Balinese village rather than a resort strip, and that is its appeal: you are central to both coasts of the Bukit without living on a busy tourist road.

About the drive times. Every time in this guide was checked on Google Maps on 17 October 2026, for a weekday morning departure from the villa, and is Google's typical range. Weekends, temple ceremonies and the high season can add time.

Pandawa Beach

About 9 to 12 minutes, 3.1 km. Pandawa is Kutuh's own beach and its best known sight. The road down was cut through the limestone cliff, and as you descend you pass statues of the five Pandawa brothers from the Mahabharata, standing in niches carved into the rock. Below is a long stretch of pale sand, usually calm enough for an easy swim, with loungers and canoes for hire.

Go early. Pandawa is a favourite day trip from all over Bali, and by late morning on weekends the area around the main entrance is busy. Walk along the sand away from the entrance and it thins out.

Melasti Beach

About 12 to 18 minutes, 5.4 km. Just over the border in Ungasan, Melasti is the beach on the postcards: a road that curves down between white cliffs to bright, clear water. It is one of the calmer swimming beaches on the Bukit. Two beach clubs sit on the sand, Palmilla and the adults-only Tropical Temptation. Arrive before nine for soft light on the cliffs and space on the beach. Our page on staying near Melasti Beach has more.

Gunung Payung Beach and temple

About 12 minutes, 4.1 km. On the eastern side of Kutuh, the clifftop temple of Pura Dhang Kahyangan Gunung Payung looks over a small beach reached by a flight of steps. It is quiet, local and simple, a place for a swim rather than a club day. The temple is a place of worship: wear a sarong and sash if you go in, and give way to any ceremony that is taking place.

Green Bowl Beach

About 9 to 10 minutes, 3.6 km. Over in Ungasan, Green Bowl is a small cove at the bottom of a long flight of steps, with a cave at one end and a reef break that surfers use. The climb keeps it quiet. Go at low tide, when there is more sand. It is not the beach for small children, or for anyone who would rather not walk back up.

Paragliding at Timbis

About 9 to 12 minutes, 3.1 km. On the cliffs near Pandawa, Timbis is the launch point for tandem paragliding along the Kutuh coast. Flights depend entirely on the wind, so ask on the morning you want to fly rather than planning around a fixed time. Even from the ground, watching the wings lift off the cliff is a good half hour.

GWK Cultural Park

About 12 to 20 minutes, 4.9 km. The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, the god Vishnu riding the mythical bird Garuda, rises over the Bukit and is visible from much of the peninsula. The cultural park around it has wide plazas, views across the south and regular cultural performances (check the day's schedule before you go). It makes an easy late-afternoon outing, especially with family.

When to go, and how to get around

Mornings suit every beach in this guide: cooler, calmer and quieter. Late afternoon belongs to the west coast sunsets of Uluwatu, which take longer to reach. Uluwatu Temple is 24 to 45 minutes away on a weekday morning, and up to 55 minutes when you leave at four in the afternoon, so plan one sunset outing a day rather than several.

A car with a driver is the easy way around. The Bukit's roads are steep and narrow with little shade, so walking between beaches is not practical.
